For 35 years, the St. Joe’s Alumni Association has organized the annual Bob Ivory ’47 5K Run to honor Coach Ivory for his contributions to the school and local community. Ivory, a Greater Buffalo Sports Hall of Fame inductee, coached legendary track and cross country teams, volunteered for school functions, supported the St. Joe’s mission, and dedicated his life to teaching. He also contributed to the Western New York running community as both a coach and an official.
Many WNY runners remember Coach Ivory’s successful St. Joe’s track and cross country teams of the 1960s and 1970s, well-known not only for their Monsignor Martin League Championships but also for their accomplishments at national invitational events. Runners on these teams credit their success to superb conditioning and the tireless commitment of their coach. Ivory remains dedicated to education, as a former math teacher who donates countless hours and resources to St. Joe’s, Canisius College, and the Special Olympics.
For his many contributions to the running community of WNY and St. Joe’s, the Alumni Association is proud to once again hold the race, this year taking place on Sunday, November 2 at 9:00 am at St. Joe’s, 845 Kenmore Avenue, Buffalo NY 14223. All race proceeds will go to the St. Joe’s Alumni Association Endowment Fund for tuition support. Every runner in the race will receive a runner’s safety vest, and there are prizes for the top finishers in each age group as well as for the top overall finisher for men and women. After the race, join us in the St. Joe’s gym for door prize giveaways, food, beer, and fellowship. Pre-registration is $22, and registrations can be made online at www.sjci.com/bobivoryrun. Day of race registration is $25.
